Child Welfare

A Global Call to Action to Change Child Welfare

Since 2019, the Child and Family Evidence Based Practice Consortium leadership group has focused upon child welfare workforce development (Rolls Reutz, Kerns, Sedivy, & Mitchell, 2020; Bertram, Elsen, Collins, & Choi 2019). To address funding requirements of the Family First Prevention Services Act, we developed assessment and planning tools to support selection and sustainable implementation of evidence-based and promising practices that were featured in two webinars .

We encourage you to contribute to and participate in the following national conference.

The Kempe Center will host the 2nd annual virtual conference, A Global Call to Action to Change Child Welfare. The inaugural, groundbreaking 2020 conference engaged 1400 participants from 20 different countries who debated and discussed child welfare transformation. Contributors included children and young people, family members, practitioners, advocates, academics, and managers. Join us again this year as we strive to change child welfare by connecting communities addressing child and family well-being and social and community justice. The conference will seek to:

  • Raise consciousness of the adverse impact that poverty, racism, oppression, othering and inequality have on the lives of children and families in child welfare systems
  • Inspire change through dialogue, thought leadership, systems change, innovative practice and accessible research
  • Confront and change oppressive laws and institutions by shifting power and decision making back to children, families and their communities.

The conference will illuminate new ideas, innovations, necessary disruptions, and transformative changes that inspire thinking and local action.
